Heating issues

My hot tub won't heat up. What's wrong?

There are dozens of reasons a spa won't heat — dirty filters, airlock, failed element, bad sensor, or a flow switch fault. Guessing at the cause without proper diagnosis often makes it worse and more expensive.

A misdiagnosed heater issue can turn a $150 fix into a $600 control board replacement.

📞Tommy Tubs diagnoses heating problems same-day across Jacksonville. We carry parts on the truck so most repairs are done in one visit. Veteran-owned, honest pricing.

Low flow fault but I can hear the pump running.

This is usually an airlock — air trapped in the pump or plumbing after a water change. If the spa wasn't filled through the filter standpipe, air gets trapped in the lines.

Persistent low-flow faults after a refill are one of our most common service calls. Trying to fix it without the right tools can introduce more air or damage the pump union.

My heating element keeps tripping the GFCI breaker.

If your spa trips the breaker when the heater kicks in, the element is likely failing. This is one of our most common calls — and one of the most mishandled.

🚨Do not keep resetting the breaker. Every reset risks burning out your control board, turning a $180 heater element job into a $500+ board replacement. Turn off the isolator and call us.

My heater seals are leaking. Is that a big deal?

Yes. A tiny drip around heater seals leads to a swollen cabinet floor, corroded fittings, and electrical faults fast. Water near electrics is never a small problem.

Switch the spa off at the isolator and stop topping up the water — that just hides the leak.

📞Tommy Tubs handles heater seal replacements and pressure tests across Jacksonville. Catching it early is always cheaper. Call 904-206-8730.

Power & electrical

No power to my spa. Nothing is coming on.

Before calling, try a full reset: turn breakers fully off then back on, unplug the GFCI for 10 seconds and replug, and check that the isolator switch is on.

⚠️If the spa comes on briefly then trips again, stop resetting. That means moisture in the heater or a failing component. Every reset risks your control board.

Why does my hot tub keep tripping the GFCI breaker?

A GFCI that trips repeatedly is protecting you from something — usually a failing heater element, moisture in the equipment compartment, or a dying pump or ozone generator.

🚨Do not keep resetting. This is the fastest way to turn a $200 repair into a $600 one. Power issues in hot tubs can be dangerous.

Tommy Tubs handles GFCI and electrical faults across Jacksonville. We tell you exactly what's causing it and what it will cost before we touch anything.

Water & leaks

My spa is leaking water. What should I do?

Small leaks become expensive fast — especially if water reaches electrical components or starts rotting the cabinet base. Common leak points include heater unions, pump fittings, jet bodies, and pipe joins.

🚨If water is pooling near electrical components, turn off the power at the isolator immediately. Do not run the spa.

Tommy Tubs does full leak searches and pressure tests across Jacksonville. We find the source, not just the symptom.

Can I keep running my hot tub if it's leaking?

No. Even a slow drip leads to a swollen base, corroded fittings, and electrical damage within days. Topping up the water hides how fast you're losing water and delays the fix.

📞Turn it off, stop topping up, and call Tommy Tubs. Catching a leak early is always a fraction of the cost of the damage it causes. 904-206-8730
My spa water is cloudy and smells bad.

Cloudy, smelly water means your sanitizer has dropped too low and bacteria are growing. Poor water chemistry also damages equipment over time.

📞If the water is beyond rescue, a full drain, acid wash, and refill is the right move. Tommy Tubs offers professional spa cleaning across Jacksonville. Call 904-206-8730.

Jets & pumps

My jets are not working but the pump is running.

This could be anything from a closed jet face to a broken diverter valve or a pump issue. Without proper diagnosis, most people end up replacing parts that didn't need replacing.

📞Tommy Tubs carries parts on the truck. Most jet and pump repairs are done in a single visit. Call 904-206-8730.
Some jets are stronger than others. Is something broken?

Sometimes this is normal — your diverter valve controls how flow is distributed. But if one zone has zero flow regardless of valve position, there's likely a blockage or broken valve that won't fix itself.

📞Not sure if it's the valves or something deeper? Call Tommy Tubs and we'll diagnose it honestly. 904-206-8730
The pump hums but no water comes out.

A humming pump with no water flow almost always means a cracked or broken impeller. Left alone, it will eventually cause your heater to fault too.

🚨Turn the spa off. Do not run a pump dry — it damages the seals and can overheat the motor.

Tommy Tubs carries impellers and pump seals on the truck. Most pump repairs are done in one visit.

My air controllers are not blowing properly.

Failed or blocked air controllers make jets feel flat and weak. Do not pull venturi fittings apart yourself — they're fragile and easy to break.

📞Air controller repairs are usually quick and affordable. Call Tommy Tubs at 904-206-8730.

General tips

My spa is stuck in Temp Lock or Spa Lock mode.

Lock modes vary by brand. The unlock is a specific button combination on the topside panel — check your owner's manual.

📞Don't have your manual? Call Tommy Tubs at 904-206-8730 and we'll walk you through it. No charge for a quick phone assist.
Why should I act early when something seems off?

Small faults become expensive fast. A minor drip rots the cabinet. Weak flow overheats the heater. Repeated breaker resets burn out control boards. Most spa owners who delay end up paying three times more.

📞Note what happened, take a photo of any error code, switch off at the isolator, and call Tommy Tubs. We always tell you upfront what the repair will cost. 904-206-8730
